JESSIE’S HOUSE

Inspiring Impactful Change

in the Community of Special Needs

ABOUT JESSIE'S HOUSE

A Distinct Identity

Here at Jessie’s House, we are driven to do our part in making the world a better place. Since 2022, Jessica Jeanblanc had an idea to provide a wide range of activities that empower youth and adults with special needs. We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits. Are you ready to join us and create real transformation in the lives of so many?

IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS A PLAN

As Jessie has worked with families with special needs she has heard there is a problem of insufficient services and support after young adults transition out of programs. With a love for these families and a daughter who will face this problem in a few years she wanted to figure out how to help.

Jessie's plan involved not only providing vocational and learning experiences but socialization and inclusion. Jessie's House has a goal of combining art, life skills and earning an income into classes. The classes will incorporate time to socialize and hang out with peers and explore passions and talents to earn an income.

We are in the process of developing class schedules for late summer and fall of 2023.

OUR MISSION

At Jessie's House we work to compassionately embrace and empower youth and adults with special needs to find purpose, passion and fellowship to live life to the fullest in an inclusive Christian environment.

We will pursue this mission through the following goals:

  • To effectively welcome youth and adults in a social setting and growing together through arts and vocational passions in community and friendship

  • To provide support and encouragement to the parents and families of individuals with specialized needs.

  • To educate our community and volunteers of mental, social, emotional and financial needs of individuals and families affected by specialized needs, both visible and hidden, and how Jessie’s House benefits the entire community.

Volunteers

VOLUNTEERING

At Jessie’s House, we are starting as a volunteer based organization to come alongside those with special needs in our community. Our goal is to impact, embrace and empower them to find passions, hobbies and/or skills to become more independent and live their life to the fullest. There is a significant value in providing experiences for typical youth and adults to volunteer, interact and befriend individuals with special needs. Volunteering is a source of great pride for Jessie's House.

Join us in making a difference. The time is now.

OUR WHY

The Main Problem

As we get to know more families of individuals with special needs it is a major concern that their children will never be able to support themselves. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 17.9% of individuals with special needs were employed. This statistic not only reflects a 1.4% decline in employment from the previous year, but it also uncovers a larger issue: 4 out of 5 special needs individuals are unemployed, regardless of whether or not they are able to work. Assistance from each family, their community, and the government is needed for special needs individuals to find employment. Yet, we find the rate of employment for special needs individuals is not going up, but rather going down. This can only mean that the training and support is insufficient, or is failing.

Another problematic fact you may not have known is that one in 4 American adults has a disability and research shows that young people with disabilities have limited opportunities for community and social interactions– nearly 40% spend little or no time with friends. (CDC website) Most programs for young adults with disabilities conclude at 22 years of age and even before then most lack a social environment to develop friendships and find community. Every individual is built to find purpose, have community and personal connection; individuals with disability are no different.

Our solution is to provide a casual, relaxed environment designed to empower youth and adults with special needs to learn employment, social skills and develop an independent mindset. Employment also provides individuals with special needs a sense of purpose and belonging as well as opportunities to socialize with their peers including typical peer volunteers and create friendships.

It is so easy to fall into a pattern of apathy as we go through our lives. Our organization was born out of a commitment to stop passing over the real issues of society, and deal with them head on. We have set out to aid those who need it most. Jessie’s House is here to help, and we believe that change is possible when we put our hearts and minds to it.
